Free Comic Book Day Coming Saturday, May 6th

havenmast.jpgThanks to our good friends at Haven Comics on Slaughter Road in Madison for this week’s guest article!

In addition to hosting Free Comic Book Day at their location this Saturday, Josh and the crew at Haven will be co-hosting our event at AMC Valley Bend 18 for the premiere of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 this weekend.  Catch them at the premiere either this Thursday or Friday night, where you could win some great prizes!

Every year since 2002, on the first Saturday in May, independent comic shops across the country participate in Free Comic Book Day. For the event, comic book publishers provide special FCBD issues of popular titles in a wide range of genres.

And there are always books for the youngest readers, as well as teens and adults, because one of the main goals of FCBD is introducing a new generation to the fun and excitement of reading comics.

On Saturday, May 6, Haven Comics in Madison will be celebrating Free Comic Book Day in a big way. First and foremost, they have over a thousand comics to give away, including special FCBD issues of Wonder Woman, Secret Empire, Guardians of the Galaxy, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and many more. In addition to the giveaway, they’ll be having big sales on regular comics and games. Costumes are always encouraged for FCBD, and there’ll be a cosplay contest, too.

Bring in canned goods or other non-perishable food items, and you’ll receive a raffle ticket for each item you donate.

There are plenty of exciting prizes this year, including two weekend passes (and one VIP pass!) to the preeminent Doctor Who convention, Con Kasterborous, hosted right here in Huntsville, as well as spectacular original comic art, t-shirts, and more!Screen Shot 2017-05-02 at 8.21.02 AM.png

Free Comic Book Day is a day for giving out free comic books, but as you can see, it’s more than that, too. It’s a day to celebrate comics and the people who create them.

It’s a day to thank loyal readers and a day to make new fans out of people who’ve never picked up a comic before. Most of all, it’s a day to enjoy being part of the great community that still thrives in independent comic shops all across the nation. Come out to Haven Comics on Saturday, May 6, and join the fun!
